Hey Kids and Adults, what is a Prism? How does it work? There are several ways to describe a Prism. Both actually have to be true. In Geometry a Prism is a solid geometric figure whose two end faces are similar, equal, and parallel rectilinear figures, and whose sides are parallelograms. For Kids, in Geometry and Optics this is easier: A Prism is a piece of glass or other see-through material that has several flat sides, called faces. Many prisms have three long faces in between two triangle-shaped ends. White light goes through the Prism and especially one that is Triangular is a refractive surface at an acute angle the light goes through and separates and becomes different colors. These colors are the same as the Rainbow that travels through rain. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo. and Violet.
